Ernie Ball is proud to announce the arrival of the new Coated Bass String line.

The latest addition to the Slinky line of strings will be unveiled at this years summer NAMM Show, in Nashville, TN.

These new patented sets will be available in all of your favorite Ernie Ball Slinky bass set gauges, and feature a micro-thin layer of an exclusive enamel coating that prevents decay and corrosion up to 5 times longer than an uncoated set of strings. Ed Friedland, The Bass Whisperer, had a chance to take a sneak peak at a few of the new coated bass sets and had this to say. "The coated string sounds virtually identical to the non-coated, it's not until I move back to the bridge and dig in that you can hear the slightly warmer character.

The string has the detailed mids and full bottom you want from nickel, and an upper midrange presence that will get you heard amidst thrashing guitars and crashing cymbals Bottom Line: If you already dig Ernie Ball Slinkys, you'll dig the coated version -- and you'll dig them for longer. If you prefer the sound of nickel strings after they've broken in, the Coated Bass will give you that sound straight out of the pack."

Ernie Ball Coated Slinkys maintain the feel and sound of uncoated sets, combining the added protection with the vibrant tone Ernie Ball customers have relied on for over 5 decades!

Gauge Regular Slinky - 45, 65, 85, 105, 130 (3836)

Are these strings the correct length for my bass?

We insist that players use the measurement of ball-end (anchor) to top nut of their current set of strings.  This measurement is more accurate than scale length as it takes into account through-body stringing, and more complex or alternative bridges.  In many cases the set of strings required will be longer than the bass’s stated scale length!  Use these references:

If ball-end-to-nut length is:

Up to 32” choose Short Scale

32”-34” choose Medium Scale

34”-36” choose Long Scale

36”-38” choose Extra/Super Long Scale

If you have a bass where you cannot see the ball-end i.e. a thru-body bass, you will have to measure your string once it has been removed. Before removing the string be sure to make a mark on the string with a permanent marker just behind the nut so you know where to measure to. Then once you’ve taken it off the bass, you can measure from the ball-end to the mark you made on the string.
