Most acoustic strings feature a bronze alloy wrap wire wound over a steel core. However. silk and steel strings offer something a bit different. The GHS Silk and Steel strings feature a silver plated copper wrap wire (typically found on classical strings) wrapped over a round steel core wire with a length of silk filament sandwiched between the outer wrap wire and the central core wire. The result is a more flexible string that delivers a softer more mellow tone, more akin to that of a classical string. Silk and steel strings are a great option for those players looking to tame a brighter sounding acoustic instrument and their lower tension also makes them a viable option for more delicate vintage instruments.
Silk and steel strings are also a worthwhile set to try if you suffer from any kind of discomfort that can often arise through playing heavier gauge steel strings.
