La Bella Strings

As the oldest, continuously family-owned strings manufacturer, La Bella’s deep and rich history can be traced all the way back to 17th-century Italy, where a cluster of musical string-making families resided.  The Mari family name was supplying gut strings to violin makers Amati and Stradivari, amongst others, until brothers Emilio and Olinto set up shop in New York around 1913.  Later in 1920, they trademarked the name La Bella, which became the company’s flagship brand.

Every La Bella string is made in their Newburgh, New York factory.

The iconic La Bella Deep Talkin’ Bass strings range became historically synonymous with the Motown records of the ‘60s thanks to the rich, deep, and smooth bass tone they deliver.

While Hard Rockin’ Steel, the electric guitar counterpart, has provided guitar players with versatile, balanced tone perfect for those legendary heavy metal sounds of the 80s through raw, edgy 90s rock and today’s alternative culture with players like Tony Iommi and Bryan Adams, to blue-jazzers like King Solomon Hicks.

La Bella’s Classical guitar strings, as you might imagine from the brand’s rich history, are second to none.  Known for their natural, transparent sound and outstanding intonation, they’re played by classical and flamenco artists such as Andrew York, the Reyes and Baliardos guitar players of the Gipsy Kings, and Pepe Romero!
