The humble slide has its origins in the Delta Blues where the back of a knife of flat piece of metal was used to replicate a kind of vocal quality. Naturally, things have developed quite a bit since then and now there are whole host of different types of slides in a variety of materials, shapes, and sizes to give endless tonal possibilities.
