Hi-Beam stainless steel bass strings are round wound and constructed on a round core which is unique in the industry. Hi-Beams require much more time, care and extra steps to make than other bass strings. The extra effort DR expends making Hi-Beams results in a bass string that is highly flexible and musically but not harshly bright.  They are renowned for durability, unusually long life, consistency and string-to-string balance. They don’t eat your frets.  HI-BEAMS are the string to choose for brightness, punch and ease of playing. Hi-Beam bass strings require much more time, care and extra steps to make than other bass strings.

DR Strings are handmade (not machine-made) because their highly trained engineers are capable of making the micro adjustments needed throughout the winding process for the best and sound and feel possible. DR bass strings are made with more metal than one realises at first. By way of example, before a DR .105 gauge bass string is carefully wound, core wire and wrap wire that gauge at .108 are prepared. After a process called 'Compression-Winding", a DR bass string that gauges .105 is produced.

Material: Stainless Steel. Round Core Wire with Ball End.

Are these strings the correct length for my bass?

We insist that players use the measurement of ball-end (anchor) to top nut of their current set of strings.  This measurement is more accurate than scale length as it takes into account through-body stringing, and more complex or alternative bridges.  In many cases the set of strings required will be longer than the bass’s stated scale length!  Use these references:

If ball-end-to-nut length is:

Up to 32” choose Short Scale

32”-34” choose Medium Scale

34”-36” choose Long Scale

36”-38” choose Extra/Super Long Scale

If you have a bass where you cannot see the ball-end i.e. a thru-body bass, you will have to measure your string once it has been removed. Before removing the string be sure to make a mark on the string with a permanent marker just behind the nut so you know where to measure to. Then once you’ve taken it off the bass, you can measure from the ball-end to the mark you made on the string.
