Right..Ok.. Read all the reviews and decided to purchase one, have gigged it three times over the weekend and I can honestly say absolutely no difference at all. Don't believe the hype, there is much TBS on the internet, It may help a cheap end guitar that is made of light inferior quality wood by adding depth to the sound but everything else like incredible sustain.. don't believe it. But on a more positive note mine's for sale. Wouldn't have give it any stars at all but the lowest I can give is 1

I was a little scepitcal as to how well it would work despite the praises of the other reviewers + I'm SO picky & hard to please, it all seeemed to be a little too good to be true . . . But much to my joy & amazment I have to concede . . . WOW, OH MY GOD, WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT!!!! this thing is AWESOME!!!! It really DOES work!!! Despite having recently honed in on my acoustic's tone with various upgrades I didn't think the sound could get any better . . "pah" said the Fat Finger & straight away gave me an additional boost in overall richness & tone!!!! The difference was kind of subtle - untill I took it off - then I realised just how much it had added!! I tried it on a couple of my other guitars & each time the same results! It is a little bigger than I expected, but its pretty far from being unsightly! Really simple & effective! A MUST HAVE!!! WOW!

3 good but ugly

There is a definite improvement in the balance and sound of my Casino, but the thing is ugly as. It sticks out at the back and makes it look like my guitar has some sort of brace like Forrest Gumps legs. Who designed this? How wide do they think the average headstock is?!!!!!

I was very skeptical of the Fat Finger at first. Although I did read three reviews that praised it, I couldn't help but think that they were being sucked in by the marketing. The Finger is only £20 too, which no doubt influenced people's judgement. I mean, how often do we guitarists get something so cheap that improves our tone?

So, I bought one, and two weeks on, I've come to realise the following:

-good-

1) It /does/ improve tone, but how much depends on the mass of your headstock. Apparently, the lighter your headstock is, the more dramatic the improvement will be.

2) Sustain /is/ increased. My Epiphone Sheraton sustains a chord about a third longer with the Finger in place. Chords sound warmer, nicer, and ring out beautifully.

-bad-

3) It's poorly shaped. On Gibson shape headstocks, it fits snugly on the neck side of the high E's tuner. This is fine, but on Strat headstocks, the Finger has to sit in the corner on the high E side, just where the logo starts. Play an E on your Strat right now, being watchful of where your first finger hangs. If it's within 2 centimetres of the logo, you're going to bang your finger off the Finger, which is a very, very irritating thing.

4) Cheap? It's a bit of metal. You could probably make the same thing yourself if you nicked some scrap from a Homebase and modified it a bit. Plus, you'll want to buy one for every guitar.

4/5. A must-buy.

Yep, I knoe it seems strange but it really does work. I have been using one on my Ibanez JS1000 for around a month and the difference is really noticable. I'm buying another for my Yamaha SG3000S... great piece of kit.

all the reviews are true, it really does add noticeable sustain and really tightens up the sound. i've tried it on all my guitars, and a couple of others and every time it just adds more defenition and sustain to notes. the difference on my japanese strat is as noticeable as when i put rio grande pickups in it! it's that good! if you're a tonehound this will easily be the best £20 you could spend.

I decided to get this, anything that makes a guitar sound better is a good thing in my book. My only doubts were the size. Reading these other reviews, I was expecting the huge hunk of metal that would cover the whole headstock. But what are you guys on about!!?? This thing is tiny! It fits into the palm of your hand, and once you have it fitted to you headstock the only piece of it you can see from the front of the guitar is a little strip of metal the size of you index finger. You're never going to notice the (slightly) larger bit behind the back, unless you spend a lot of time looking at that part of your guitar when you play.

As for the actual purpose of this equipment, I tell you, it works. It really does. I have a beautiful Aria electro-acoustic guitar that has never had the greatest of tones. I've always had problems getting both high and low E's to sound right. Man, I've been through a hell of a lot of tuners thinking they were the problem, but this thing has sorted it out for good. My guitar has never sounded better, never been easy to tune. You must by this. It's only £20!! Come on!!
5 Noticable improvement in sustain and tone

anything that costs less than £20 and improves the tone of any instrument has got to be a good thing.

I put it on my cheap mexican Tele and it feels and sounds better than ever, Fatfinger seemed to add a little more resonance to the guitar.

It looks pretty cool as well. ;)
