Jim Dunlop Ultex Standard Player Pack 6-Pack

This is it, that one simple thing that can ignite your playing—the Ultex pick. Dig in and grind, then jump to delicate, fluttering lines. Impossibly hard yet absolutely responsive, these picks will reveal every flicker of emotion in your playing and still add brutal bite to the heaviest power cord you can unleash. They’re also virtually indestructible, hanging tough through countless pick slide, windmills, and other insanity.
The revolutionary Ultex material telegraphs the slightest contact, giving you an almost intuitive feel for the strings. With unprecedented resilience and snap, its release is so clean that individual notes sing out and artificial harmonics can be fired off at will. Practically weightless, with flawless, silky edges, the Ultex doesn’t emulate anything. It is what it is: the most versatile, expressive pick ever made.
Whether you’re crying the blues, racing through flamenco runs, or throwing down monster riffs, these tequila- gold jewels will be your ultimate secret weapon.

Nice picks. Weight for weight they are stiffer than most other plastics like nylon or celluloid so the flex between finger and thumb - the factor that makes a pick feel right or wrong - is reduced and you may need to drop down a gauge or two to retain the amount of flex you are used to. But they grip well and don't spin around. I like them. Those who moan about the price should take note of the Strings Direct Price Match Policy before making their point.

hi, i play on average six nights a week and i have done for over 15 years. i stumbled across these picks through a friend and i have never looked back. i used to use other plectrums one pick per gig but these ultex last three or four gigs easily. they are brilliantly durable and they improve your picking accuracy, seriously. they are that good! i'll always use these picks no matter what. even if I end up searching ebay! there is no better in my opinion. just try them is all i'm saying. i've already converted 75% of the guitar players i know. what have you got to lose?

I've been a long time user of the delrin 500 picks and really love their durability, gauges and most of all the shiny feel.

However these are slippy picks and because of the shiny surface escape quite easily.

I have a rather picky (exscuse the pun) sense of touch and dont really like chalky or furry textures. And so over the years I've tried Gator Grip, which were very fury to the touch yuck! Tortex, which were great after the chalky feel wears off but still not prefect. And the nylon range, but they don't go thick enough and give too much.

So when I was introduced to the Ultex range I was ecstatic. It feels like the delrin 500 picks and has better grip than any other pick i've ever tried. I'd go so far as to say its impossible for them to slip out of even the sweatiest of hands. Infact the tighter you hold them the more they just dig in and stick to your fingers like quicksand!

I can't recommend them enough. Not chalky, not fury, nice clear shiny texture that grips to your fingers like nothing else.

My prefered gauges range from the .96 in the delrin for lightehr rhythm and easier stuff through to 1.5 delrin for hard diggin in shred. My main everyday gauge is the 1.14 .
So the only slight problem with the Ultex is they dont offer a 1.5 mm gauge. But the 1.14's are great for the majority of playing styles, if they offered a 1.5mm Ultex pick then I would be using them forever I think.

Hope this helps.

David

p.s oh yea forgot to mention they are unbelievably durable too! Pick slides? No Problem. Hold shape nicely!

alex
As a 6 pack these work out to around 60p each. i have payed 80p for some picks in shops before. so people who complain about the price are wrong IMO. these are extremely durable picks, great grip, great feel, and they cant realy be beat.
i cant decide between these and some of my other fave picks, the gator grips

This could be the best pick ever made. This is the best pick i have ever used. The grip is awesome, and alot better than the tortex picks which i used to use before i found these. Also the logos havn't rubbed off yet which is awesome, usually they start to fade straight away. I recommend these to anyone and everyone, u are seriously missing out if you don't already own some of these awesome picks.
3 hmm, not sure

I've got 2 left from the last pack I bought 3 years ago - I lost the other 4. These last forever, don't slip from my fingers no matter how sweaty I get, and have a great feel. www.thegreatestquestion.co.uk

Excellent pick does the business! well worth trying. WILL BE EVEN BETTER WHEN THE DUDES @ DUNLOP USA LEARN TO COUNT (only five in my pack)
3 Ultex picks
slateboy
Totally agree. These picks have far more grip than anything else i've tried- and yes, the logo doesn't wear off (so!?!?)
*BUT* they do NOT really last any longer than a tortex pick.
Ask yourself- are you prepared to pay double the price of a normal pick for just double the grip? You choose!
5 Marvellous!

I've migrated from Gator Grip 2mm picks and I'd have to say, I won't be going back - even though the thickest Ultex picks are 1.14mm, they're stiff enough to satisfy me.

They really do give a very satisfying snap to the note delivery when needed and a silky sheen to delicately plucked strings.

They just about make it through a two hour set which is better than any others I've tried...even metal ones! :o)

This is a terrific pick. I bought some 60mm ones and they are superb.
They transform the sound of your strings and guitar. The sound is rich and resonant. Simply a superb pick that you will not want to put down.

I will never gig without these. I am totally hooked on these pics. I go through my solo's with ease and when I need to lay down some riffs they do the job perfectly. I highly recommend these pics. I also never had the need to pick one up off the floor! They really last long and they kick!

these have got to be the best picks i have ever used. really light and totaly indestructable- i have used the same one for around 20 - 30 gigs and it shows very little signs of ware. made from a weird plastic that is so grippy you rarely drop them. you got to give these a try.
5 Best I have used

I have been a Dunlop fan for the past 14 years, and have grown with their picks along the way. I started using tortex like so many others, but hated the way they would slip during a live performance. Switched to Gators as the grip was so much better and thought I was in heaven, until I found the Ultex. Now I won't use anything but Ultex, and haven't in close to a year. Very strong picks with a naturally grippy surface, they last longer than anything I've used before and never slip during a show. These are picks worth your time and attention!
