WOW , I,LL SAY IT AGAIN WOW, I'm a Bluegrass player and tried these on a few flatpicking tunes , I play a Martin D16RGT with a fosssilized walrus ivory nut and saddle and use Elixer nano's phospher bronze 12's and i am blown away by the attack and response of these little guy's on the faster picked passages, extremely good seperation and smooth attack lovely tone ,for such a small pick it packs a huge punch ,do yourself a favour and give them a try , if i could give them 6 out of 5 i would , my new fav'z .well done ultex ,litte beautz .

The differences you will notice are mainly in tone, the Ultex gives it a less snappy tone (in comparison to nylon). This is not to say the Ultex tone is dull, but not as trebly as the red Jazz equivalent. In my opinion, string rakes sound nicer with Ultex because of the reduced treble attack. The time it takes to wear an Ultex down is very similar to that of any other plectrum, so don't buy them thinking you'll use 1 Ultex for every 2-3 nylon, it don't work that way, steel strings wear plectrums regardless of material. On a side note, one thing I also noticed, when you play plectrums for a long time, you get a chamfered edge on the tip of the plectrum. Nylon leaves a course edge (because it's nylon), where as Ultex leaves a smoother edge (like a plastic). If you are in a bind and have to play with a chamfered plectrum, the Ultex is slightly more bearable to do so with. Bottom line, if you like the feel of Jazz III plectrums, but think the tone can be a bit too harsh at points, Ultex is for you. (I play Blues, Funk and Classic Rock - I like them)
3 Well they're ok.

I'm a bit of a accessory obsessive so I'm always trying out different picks. I've always loved smaller Jazz III size ones the most so I thought I'd give them a go. They're alright, I prefer how they sound to the red Jazz III, they're a bit darker. I much prefer the grip, however having used a V-picks small pointed for a bit these just don't compare. However for the price they're good and therefore I settled with these as V-picks just cost too much for how easy they are to lose.

I don't think its really that great for people with sweaty hands... and its even worse for strumming... Great for fast passages though but i'll still prefer the black jazz IIIs over these

I thought I'd give these ago as I needed som Jazz III (Reds). Also tried a few Red Jazz III XLs. I really likes the tone of these Ultex ones. Nice and grippy too. I have been using them for about a month now. For no real reason I picked up my last Red Jazz III the other day, and instantly preferred it to the Ultex! A lot. Not really the tone, just the way the pick comes through and releases the string when fast alternate picking. Very strange. Maybe the slightly bendier-ness of the Reds is more suitable for me. So my conclusion is to avoid the hype if you are a Jazz III user and stick with what you know. The grass probably isnt greener.

Very smooth finish and resilient to wear. Great grip. These are the best picks I've used for feel, response and smooth but fast attack. Better grip than Tortex, smoother finish than red Jazz III. Only down size is the transparent beige colour! Drop one on a wooden floor in half light and it's gone. Hence the 4 stars. Having said that, I rarely drop these when playing and they are now my main picks.

I have used both the H3 and Jazz III for ten years or so now and have always wanted something in between the two the feel of the jazz III and attack but the clarity of the H3 and in the Ultex Jazz III I have it. Its a great pick and I doubt I will use anything else, excellent for both funky rhythms and very fast picking.

Should have been great, I think Ultex is the best material Dunlop have as you will not kill these picks! Not as much attack as standard Jazz 3's and even less grip as far as I'm concerned. They should bring out a max-grip Ultex Jazz 3 XL, then I may be interested again! Wanted to love them but resigned to my big bowl of picks, not rubbish, they just feel harder to hang onto then a Jazz 3 and also slower. If you destroy standard Jazz 3's I'd imagine you'd love them though!
5 excellent

only recieved these yesterday, but i can already hear and feel a difference in my playing. the ultex material is absolutely superb for gripping (i havent dropped it once, unlike my old red jazz iiis) and doesn't produce that scratchy sound that occurs when the nylon/stiffo material 'chipped' near the point (i had to keep sanding the old red/black ones down to keep the edges smooth!). it simply glides through the strings, and i have every confidence that this will be in the same condition it is now in weeks and months to come.
3 Good but not perfect

These picks are pretty awesome. Very light weight, thick and of coarse have the same shape of the legendary jazz III along with the ultex, (i wont wear out no matter what), technology. However there are some important differences i found with these picks. The edges of the pick aren't as narrowly beveled in shape as my other jazz III's. Also the pick is slightly thicker than the black and red jazz III's i own. I always wanted the jazz three to be a bit thicker and this pick felt a bit more substantial between my fingers. I feel i must highlight the edge of the pick because this ultex jazz three just doesn't cut or have the same level off response as i can find with my black jazz III''s (which are my all time favs). For me i found that the ultex picks on a clean channel had a much softer response and even more so on a dirty channel in comparison to my black jazz III's. (for me its a totally different EQ that might be better accustomed for acoustic guitars or something with a flat compressed sound like funk or reggae) I don't know if this large difference in tone is mostly due to the thicker edges or simply just the material itself..... I love the jazz III picks, red or black but for me they wear out quite quickly and i hoped that this would be the "ultimate pick!". Alas for me this was not so......
