The revolutionary Planet Waves S.O.S. Guitar Tuner pulses two out-of-phase LED light beams directly onto the vibrating string. When the string is out of tune, the two lights will visually dance on the string being tuned. As you approach in-tune status, the movement slows down and eventually stops when you are perfectly in tune. This revolutionary visual tuning system enables precision tuning in silent or noisy environments, with the need for audible sound or sensing of any kind.
• Ergonomic pick-sized design
• Light Based Tuning
• Precisely tune in dark or noisy environments

Easy to use, as long as you read the instructions. I've got 3 of them and would recommend them to anyone.

Most reviewers are missing the point. Use your 'standard' tuner first, then you can use this on stage with any amount of background noise. It's brilliant and easy to use.

Please don't buy this "tuner" !
<br/>Get it free as a "freebe" and put it in your case as a back-up of a back-up. But NOT as a daily or gigging tuner.
<br/>Nice idea- pratically poor- very poor!

the theory behind this is great, BUT, in practice it just does not stand up against a standard tuner. i found it very hard to use. i just dont trust the thing. you really need to see a needle moving. this was free with some strings i bought. there is no way i would pay good money for this toy. it will prob go straight into the bin

Good gadget but ...

Great gadget, but not that accurate IMHO.
<br/>useful if I can't be bothered plugging in to tune, but given the choice I'd use my Korg DT7
Rich T Fingers
Great little product but it doesn't indicate whether the pitch is high or low so difficult to use silently.

Rating of 1 "guitar out of 5" as oppose to "O" option is not an obtainable option"
<br/>(I would give a "O" as it annouys me people make money out of a tatally shit devise- surely makes me doubt the positive reviews here, I mean who do they work for?)
<br/>#ZERO GUITARS OUT OF 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good stocking filler, but after a few goes on it, have gone back to my trusty Korg DT3. No good for alternate tunings, and not much kop on bass. Basically, it's a bit of a nifty gadget if you're a bit out and need a quick retune.

Not so sure

I don't necessarily agree with the overall positive comments form previous reviewers. The theory behind this little gadget is pretty clever but I've found its accuracy to be a bit of a hit or miss to be fair. Also, the writing on the dial is very hard to read in low-light environments.

Genius

This is quite simply the best guitar based gadget I have ever bought. I was initially sceptical, however on receiving the item (in fantastic time by the way) I took it from the packet and got to grips with it straight away. It tunes perfectly, in the noisiest of environments, which is a real help to me.
<br/>Great value for money and a worthwhile addition to any guitar case. Plus It worked well for my 12 string!

Can't understand why anyone couldn't use this gadget - it's a piece of cake. What does it matter that you can't see whether the note's high or low - if it's out of tune, it's out of tune! Just turn the tuner and if the lights move faster when you go up, then go down - and vice versa. What could be simpler? I compared this with my Boss TU-12 (£99.95!) and it was spot on. The only slightly tricky part - and it really isn't that tricky - is making sure you're shining the lights right at the string - and of course be fussy about tuning until the lights stop moving. However, where this little gadget really comes into its own is when tuning an acoustic guitar. Electric tuners are notoriously bad at picking up a clear signal from an acoustic - with this tuner that problem is completely eliminated. Brilliant idea. Nonetheless, for a live environment, a conventional tuner is much quicker and a good deal less fiddly, so if you're on stage and need to tune quickly - this is not the way to go - you'll still have to fork out for a pricier electronic tuner I'm afraid.

Brilliant!

This little tuner is small enough to put in your pocket so you can tune-up anytime. It is easy to use and very accurate, much better than a conventional tuner. Being purely optical the tracking is simply perfect. What a clever product. I wish I'd thought of it!
