DR Hi-Beam Nickel Plated Electric Guitar Strings

Hi-Beam electric guitar strings are very much like the standard Tite-Fit electrics in feel and flexibility, but are much brighter and have an edge to their tone. For the rockers and head-bangers looking for the brightness and edge missing in the warmth and fatness of the standard Tite-Fit range.

5 Best strings for distortion
Paul
10 August 2011
I've always used DR strings because they just sound tight and there's never a drop off in quality - though I change my strings often so can't comment on breakage. I've switched to the DR Hi-Beam because of some serious distortion I use, which has some muddy bass response on regular tite DR's. These hi-beams are very much a Billy Corgan response - able to handle very distorted signal but retain a clean cut treble separation. I bought mainly for lead work, but found they really suit big downtuned chords as well. These do have a very bright sound clean, but I personally like that to cut through.

Billy Corgan uses the 9-42 version of these... hence I gave them a go! Although I went for 9-46. Great strings with a real tight zing to them. I never really notice a difference in sound between strings just string life and feel.. however I'm sure these are a bit more trebbly! Which can be a bad or a good thing...
5 Hi-Beams - good choice for humbuckers

I was recommended DR Strings from Justin Sandercoe via his excellent justinguitar.com tuition site. I initially bought a set of the regular Tite-Fit 10-46 for my Epi SG which sounded good and didn't break in the 4 months of fitting them. My problem was that the low E & A strings always sounded a little too bassy and muddy for my ears. After fitting a set of 10-46 Hi-Beams this bassy-ness has gone away and now the humbuckers really rock in a great way - no muddy low E power chords for me! Excellent strings and feels nice knowing they are still 'handmade'...
