I bought this pedal on spec after looking around for something that would improve the tone of my old 1957 Gibson G8 amp. The tone control on this amp has always had a very limited effect (probably due to its age) but I always knew that it had the potential to be a very sweet sounding unit. 130 quid seemed like quite a gamble but after reading independent reviews elsewhere, I took the plunge and I'm glad I did. My vintage G8 now sounds so much warmer and rounder with the Barb EQ plugged in, In fact, with your eyes closed you could mistake it for something much bigger than a 10W combo with a 10 inch speaker. The tone controls on the Barb EQ are very subtle and totally uncoloured, so subtle in fact that it is difficult to describe the overall effect of the pedal in words except to say that it has brought a richness to the overall sound. The unit is built like a tank and has very smooth control knobs. Although there are only vol, treble and bass controls, the range of tone shaping options is very wide. I believe there is now a 4 knob version with the fourth knob being a mid control but I'm happy with the 3 knob version. If you've got an older valve amp, especially a smaller one, then this pedal will breath new life into it. I highly recommend it.
