Kyser Lemon Oil

If its any help I use Dunlop 65 Ultimate Lemon Oil which I find very good (which is why I haven't tried others). Point is, I find the same arguments against both products, so its most likely a product application problem than an application of product problem. Try it, find out for yourselves.

Not for me

I've used Kyser Lem Oil on my rosewood Les Paul fretboard for about 8 years now. I use it every time I restring and apply quite a lot, which I rub in with a finger and leave for about 10 mins or so; than I polish it off with a soft cloth. It leaves the board fresh, clean and healthy looking rather than dry, dull and nasty. Good stuff.
Make sure you wash your hands after use; it's pretty aggressive stuff and actually took the lettering off my computer keyboard after I had used it.
Good if used properly.

A few people appear to be under a slight misapprehension about lemon oil, which may explain some of the negative comments.
Lemon oil isn't really a polish. It's intended to be used very sparingly to "feed" a rosewood or ebony fingerboard to prevent the wood drying out too much. It takes very little oil to do this. Wipe on a thin coat and leave it for about 1 minute. Then polish off any left on the surface. If it all soaks in in a few seconds, or the board still feels very dry, apply a second treatment. If you get a sticky fingerboard you're using too much oil/too often/not wiping it off enough. Over-oiling can cause the grain to swell, the wood to soften or frets to loosen.
Then repeat in about 6 months time.
Lemon oil has no beneficial effect on lacquered maple boards at all (though it may soften and/or damage the finish).
I've been working on guitars for about 25 years, and I've always had a preference for Kyser because of the very thin consistency (it's in a petrol carrier).
smells nice, if nowt else
Don't think i use this stuff properly.
think it needs rubbing in really well or a few coats. Made the fretboard squeaky clean- which meant finger ends had more traction with the fingerboard- not ideal for bends i found. A quick rub over to remove the traction juice and i still think a damp towel is as good as anything else...
Very pleased!!!
The lem oil just arrived today. Applied it and it brought my dirty fretboard up really well! Very pleased! Also I find the neck alot more slidey which is great for barre chords!!!
The Spray, The Polish, The Ledgend
Just amazing! Leaves no residue, polishes the wood, keeps your board supple and sounding great. Always use this every time i change my strings.
Does what it say on the bottle
It does what is says it does, simple as that.
quality stuff
i've used the lemon oil on both the maple and the rosewood necks on my strats, and on various acoustics over the years and the results have always been excellent. it feels like your playing a slinky new guitar for the first time! it smells great, and i shall continue to use this for a long time. highly recommended
Warning
A great product but apply too much and you can lose a bit of the tone.
This stuff is great!

I recently used this product on my Les paul's rosewood fingerboard and its made a huge difference. Its quick and easy to apply and it smells good aswell. It gives the fingerboard a lovely smooth finish which reduces friction and certainly improves playability. Its the best fingerboard conditioner I've ever used. Buy it now its worth it!!
This stuff is the WORST. I made the mistake of giving away a small bottle of good fretboard oil I used for years and picked up a bottle of this stuff. It felt great right after I applied it but the more I played the stickier the fretboard became. Almost unplayable at this point until I can get this crap cleaned out of the wood and get some real fretboard oil. I give it 1 because there is no 0.
Playability, looks and smell!

I've used Kyser lemon oil on my fretboards; it's great. It certainly adds something to your instruments. Apart from the knowledge that you're putting something into the wood to counteract all the greasy, acidic filth that comes from your fingers, there's that sensual joy of slowly smoothing the oil into a long, slim neck; take your time; enjoy the experience! Then play it again, Sam, and note the slicker playability....and the smell; ohhh!
