Seymour Duncan SSL-4 Quarter Pound Flat

High output true single-coil. Recommended for blues, classic rock, garage, heavy rock, classic metal and nu-metal.
More than twice the power of a traditional single-coil. The result is a fat, punchy sound; similar to a P-90. It’s clean at lower volumes and screamin’ when cranked. The hand polished, quarter-inch diameter magnets are matched with a powerful coil winding to deliver great sustain, making this one of our most popular single-coil pickups. Does not use a cover.
For any acoustically balanced Strat®. Works especially well with rosewood fingerboards.
Used by Melle Vasquez / Nancy Sinatra, Whitey Kirst / Iggy Pop, Buzz Feiten, Chris Caffery / Savatage & Transyberian Orchestra, Bruce Butler / Motograter

Great Pickup

I play a lot of blues, early Fleetwood Mac, early Clapton, etc, and I have an HSS Strat I recently fitted with a Seymour Duncan SH1 humbucker at the bridge, and have just replaced the two standard Fender single coil pickups with these. The difference is frankly remarkable; this is now a different, far superior guitar. Suddenly, the tone controls are important; the tonal range is hugely increased, the palette of sounds similarly so.
The Fender humbucker was frankly poor, not a patch on the SD, but the switch from the clear crisp sound of the humbucker to the two single Fenders was clashing, dreadful even. I got to the stage quickly that I mostly played on the humbucker. This obviously was no solution, so I saved up and bought on recommendation a pair of these singles. They proved to be a perfect complement to the '59 PAF replica. They are warm and full of tone, but capable of screaming power if required. I am sure there are 'better' pickups out there for specific purposes, but for £45 notes or so each? These are the best pickups I have ever heard for the money, in fact, sometimes for a lot more money. If you want something general purpose but really good quality, and you can't afford Cobalt Samariums, these are for you. Fender should put them in; they charge enough for the inferior ones they use.
