Seymour Duncan SH-1 Humbucker 59' Model
RRP £84.95. The most important thing about the vintage Patent Applied For pickup was its warm, smooth tone and sustain that was unlike anything heard before. The SH-1 is built with the same kind of enameled wire, nickel-plated studs, and balanced coil windings that humbucker inventor Seth Lover used in his first pickups. It looks and sounds just like a '59. Single conductor cable is standard. This pickup is black - seen here in Black/White Zebra ( Zebra are available for order ) To check out dimensions, spec and to hear this pickup visit www.seymourduncan.com

Les Pauls? who needs 'em?

I bought this a few days ago, after the usual remarkable service from Strings Direct. What a pleasure it is to deal with this place. The pickup was dead easy to fit, clear instructions, etc. I am still getting used to it, but this is a remarkable pickup for the price. I suddenly have an enormously larger tonal palette to choose from, far larger than the existing Fender humbucker in my HSS Strat. Now, the tone knobs have an actual purpose. I play Blues and classic rock, early Fleetwood Mac, Gary Moore, Clapton, et al. This pickup could have been created specifically for that purpose, so superb is the sound. If you want big noise, this perhaps is not for you, although the sustain is astonishing. I have coupled this to a pair of Quarter Pounders (SSL4s), and my Strat is now a different guitar, simple as that. I can make it sound like an early Gibson being played by Peter Green, or I can make it scream like a banshee; my choice. My brother in law has about £4k's worth of original Les Paul, and my cheap Strat now blows it away. Thanks, Seymour Duncan. I cannot recommend this enough for Blues and classic rock. I have to go now, I have three angels sitting downstairs with wet knickers, crying and shedding feathers waiting for me to play Albatross for them again.
