I've been using one of these since 1979 and I've lost two of the screws that keep the bottom plate on. Mine doesn't have the red pilot light either, but hey! all the other reviews are right. In-line, between my '64 Strat and a small valve combo it kicks in lovely for that dynamic you get at the right volume on single-note stuff: a pre-feedback kind of charge to the strings where under the fingers the notes all flow together. Notes hang on in there without compression or over-saturation. Mine's always Gaffa'd just where I can stomp it. Recommended whole-heartedly.

This little pedal is simply a life saver if you are gigging as a booster for solos. There are many known tested and approved ways of boosting for solos like turning your amp up loud and controlling the volume on your guitar volume pot; using the old TS-9 overdrive pedal (or equivalent) in the front end of your amp, having an additional louder 'effects' patch or, as I have been doing for ten years or more, using a Boss GE-7 to boost but when I discovered the MXR Micro Amp I thought: brilliant idea! and it works very well too. I was playing country gigs and was using a very basic set up: Fender amp (clean), Boss Volume pedal, MXR Dyna comp and Boss DDS-3 for delay but my problem was the GE-7 was noisey so I soon swapped it out for the MXR Micro Amp - problem solved. It only has one knob; mine is set somewher between a quarter to half turn, yes, watch it! this thing can boost loud. It is also good for compensating for gain in an effects pedal chain or if your guitar has humbuckers which split coil option and the guitar output is reduced so you can balance things out. I now employ my MXR Micro Amp on the output of my BOSS GT-8 to boost for solos (I use the CTL pedal for tap tempo delay). Highly recommended pedal.

I use this in the FX loop of my DSL 100 head. Used in this way it's superb for lifting you up for solos without changing the tone in any noticeable way. Fantastic piece of kit, and with the rubber coated control you can change the setting with your foot during a gig! I wouldn't gig without one.

This pedal is the business!!
If you need to boost your solos like I do (using a JCM800 that only has one channel) then this pedal will do exactly that and more. I only need mine set on less than half and it boosts the signal plenty for leads. Full up it takes your head off. So be warned!!
Talk about head room!
It only works like this when used in the effects loop of my amp. (In the chain it was next to useless)
It alters the tone very slightly and not in a bad way either.
You can't rely on the sound engineer to boost your solos, even if he isn't at the bar, your solo is done before he's thought to push the fader.
If ya need a boost, this is the one!

Adds a great boost for lead work without over-saturating the tone. Really helps you cut through in a live situation. I've had my second hand Micro_Amp for over 10 years. They're definitely built to last. Once you've used one you may feel lost without it.
